The suspect opened fire on the two cops as they were serving a warrant. It's unclear whether the deputies were able to retaliate.

  • One of the deputies was taken to a nearby trauma facility but died.
  • Meanwhile, the suspect is believed to be barricaded, and the Cobb SWAT team is on the site.
  • Witnesses informed Channel 2 Action News that several shots were fired shortly after 7.45 p.m.
  • Law enforcement is using the public address system to try to encourage the suspect to leave his residence.

According to 11 Alive, at least three SWAT units are on the site.

'As more information becomes available, including the identities of the slain cops,' the Cobb County Sheriff added.

At the roundabout immediately southeast of Cheatham Hill Elementary School, law enforcement cars could be seen lining Irwin and John Ward roads.


The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a statement saying, 'Our sympathies go out to Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens and the Cobb County Sheriff's Office after the death of two officers tonight in the line of duty.'


The two deputies are the fourth and fifth law enforcement officials in Georgia to be slain in the line of duty this year.


According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, eight cops were murdered while on duty in 2021.
